This App Will Create Unique Daily Walking Routes for You
It doesn’t matter if you’re in a new city or at home – sometimes you just want to go for a walk, but you don’t know where to go. A new free iPhone app called Strolly is the perfect solution. Open the app and it will create three walking routes (usually a loop) near your current location: one short, one long, and one in between. You can switch between routes and choose the one you like.
That’s it – there are no step-by-step directions and you only get three offers per day. The app is designed to include local landmarks and avoid driving down the same road twice. Loops are created entirely on the device, meaning that no data about your current location is sent anywhere to the server.
There are also no ads, except for a small button in the settings that allows you to send a tip to the developers if you want. According to their post , advanced paid features may come later, but for now, this is one of those simple apps created for a specific person by just a few people (Natalia Panferova and Matthäus Woolard).
How Strolli works
Once you do this, you will see several different options. I tried the app in a few different places and it usually took me one walk for about 15 minutes, one walk for about 30 minutes, and another for about an hour, with some variations. If you know you’re unlikely to want to take very long walks, you can adjust the settings so that you’re given any combination of long, medium, and short walks.
You can switch between different randomly generated routes by flipping through the cards in the bottom left corner. You can also tap and hold cards to either pin a walk (saving it for later) or erase current walks and create new ones. There’s also a feature that allows you to flag areas that aren’t really suitable for walking, which will teach the app not to include such areas in the future, although, again, the information itself remains local to your device and isn’t uploaded to a server. .
Overall, Strolly is a very simple app, but that’s the point. Try it next time you want to go for a walk and don’t know where exactly to go.
