Every New Feature in the Notes App in IOS 18

Notes is one of the most useful apps in the Apple ecosystem. It’s one of the best note-taking apps for iPhone that allows you to collaborate with multiple employees and has many additional features , such as a built-in document scanner . With iOS 18, Apple is making Notes even better. Here are the best new Apple Notes features to try after installing the new OS .

Take voice notes in iOS

1 credit

Apple Notes now supports voice recording in iOS 18. The app allows you to take quick voice notes and embed them into text. Moreover, after recording a voice note, you can also share the audio file with others. This means you don’t have to share the entire note just to share the audio. You can select any individual voice note and share it with anyone.

To record a voice note, create a new note and tap the paperclip icon , then select Record Audio . Then press the red record button when you’re ready and start talking. Click the pause button to pause recording, or click Done to finish.

Your iPhone will even record your voice notes

In iOS 18, Notes can also transcribe your voice note, saving you the trouble of manually typing out everything you just recorded. This feature is available on iPhone 12 or later and currently only supports one language: English. However, it will work with the following regional differences:

  • English (Australia)

  • English (Canada)

  • English (Ireland)

  • English (New Zealand)

  • English (South Africa)

  • English (UK)

  • English (USA).

Surprisingly, the iPhone also supports two additional English language options, namely English (India) and English (Singapore), but audio transcription is not available for them yet.

To transcribe audio in Notes, tap any audio in Notes, then tap the quotes in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Solve math problems

Apple Notes appears to be taking Soulver’s book and adding a feature that lets you solve math problems. You can quickly set up a few variables and define their values in Notes, like x=10, y=20, and z=30, and Notes can tell you what x+y+z is. You can also give your variables fully qualified names and Notes will still perform your calculations just fine. Support includes general math calculations, including addition, multiplication, division, and subtraction. Math in Notes uses the same technology as the new Math Notes section in the Calculator app.

Easily navigate through large notes

For some time, Notes allowed you to break notes into sections, but adding too many sections made it difficult to view notes. In iOS 18, you can collapse sections you want to skip, which greatly reduces the amount of scrolling required to reach the end. Don’t worry: collapsing the notes section won’t delete it. To use this feature, apply a heading style to any section of your notes, then tap the heading to collapse it.

Add color to your notes

Some people like to use different colors when typing. Perhaps you want to highlight important parts of a note or highlight topics by color. In Notes for iOS 18, you can easily try out different colors by pressing the Aa button in the Notes toolbar above the keyboard, and then selecting the circle in the second row. You can choose from the following options: purple, pink, orange, mint and blue.
