10 Must-Buy Games From the Steam Summer Sale

Playing video games is better than going outside. You know it. I know it. Steam knows this. The ubiquitous PC gaming platform will sweep home life this July with a summer sale of virtually every type of video game, from artsy indie titles to overhyped AAA releases.

I browsed through virtual shopping carts like a tourist at a record store and came up with this list of the ten best games to download during the Steam Summer Sale.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the perfect game to grab on sale. It received mixed reviews upon release, so you might be hesitant to buy it, but at $11.99 it’s worth the risk. Regardless, I love Valhalla . You’ll become a damn Viking , and that’s all I’ve ever wanted in a video game and in life.

Elden Ring

While this isn’t as big of a discount as you’ll find, $42 is still a bargain, especially since Elden Ring ranks among the best video games to ever exist. Also, if you like it, you can purchase Shadow of the Erdtree , the recently released DLC for Elden Ring .

American truck simulator

Why would anyone choose to look like a truck driver over a space marine, a wizard, or a viking? Because it’s amazing . I can’t quite describe why hauling a load of ball bearings through Albuquerque is more fun than blasting orcs with fireballs, but the game’s “overwhelmingly positive” user reviews on Steam are proof that it is, and American Truck Simulator is selling for two measly dollars, so even the poor can afford to try it.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

It’s been out for nine years now, so it’s hard to believe that anyone interested in role-playing games hasn’t already played The Witcher 3, but if you’re there, now’s your perfect chance to see why it’s included in every online game. The Witcher list. The best games of all time.” If you haven’t played the Witcher 3 DLC, the Wild Hunt version has it all for just $12.49.

Tekken 8

Sometimes you just want to kick some ass, but do it in Tekken 8 and only get punched back in your virtual face. The regular edition of this fighting game sells for $39.99, a 43% discount. The Ultimate version costs $76.99, down from $109.99.

Half-life: Alix

While many VR games are still essentially tech demos, Half-Life: Alyx is a fully realized, surprisingly impressive game that remains one of the best VR games available even four years after its launch . Plus, it’s 66% off the list price of $59.99.

Far Cry 5

This Far Cry 5 open-world chaos simulator puts you in the middle of a Montana county overrun by religious extremists and says, “Blow them all up!” It’s only $6, which is 90% off the list price.

Civilization VI

I almost regret recommending Civilization VI . The turn-based strategy game about conquering the world is so addictive that it feels like I’m saying, “Just take this pill; drugs are fun!” Unlike drugs, Civ 6 is very cheap: only $2.99, 95% off.

Forza Horizon 5

Even if you’re not a car enthusiast, you’ll enjoy Forza Horizon 5 . The open world racing game features all kinds of cars, from Ford Fiesta to Bugatti Divos, and the driving physics are perfect. All different editions of Forza 5 are half price.

Celeste

I confess: I have never played Celeste . Everyone – critics and gamers alike – loves an indie platformer about anxiety, depression and mountain climbing, but for me it felt like a mission. Now that it’s only $1.99, the cost of the iPhone game, I’m like, “Okay, you win. I’ll play Celeste .”
