This App Lets You Create Your Own Apple Music Playlist Covers

When you create playlists in Apple Music, the service allows you to use your own cover art. You can choose a photo from your library or one of the covers she creates. I’m inclined to choose the latter, but over the past few months I’ve become bored with Apple’s playlist cover options—choosing from the same six templates gets boring at a certain point. That’s when I discovered Denim , an app that lets you create custom covers for Apple Music playlists.

Denim has been around for a couple of years now and recently received a big update that added a lot more cover options. Its developer also created Hezel, which allows you to backup all your Apple Music playlists .

How to Use Denim to Create Custom Apple Music Playlist Covers

When you open Denim, the app will ask for access to your Apple Music data. This is necessary so that the application can see your playlists and help you create covers for them. Once you give this permission, the app will show you all your playlists in useful sections. One of them highlights all playlists with one of Apple’s default covers, and the other shows playlists with their own cover.

This makes it easy to find playlists with outdated covers. It’s also good that the app only shows playlists you’ve created. This saved me a lot of hassle because I have about 200 playlists in my Apple Music account, including about 50 that I created. To start creating a cover, tap any of your playlists and Denim will create a whole bunch of covers. There are a wide variety of basic covers with solid backgrounds, as well as some with gradients and textures in the background.

I love denim covers that feature the artist on your playlist prominently. Another personal favorite is the emoji cover, which takes into account the region and genre of music and selects the emoji for the cover based on these factors. You can see the flag of the country the songs are from and some of the instruments that are commonly used in the songs. But the real fun begins when you click the “View More Covers” button. It lets you see covers based on mood, scenes, genres, activities, seasons, and more.

Denim is free to download and can be purchased in-app for $5, which opens up editing capabilities and allows you to personalize the covers to your liking, including changing the font, background, and text on the cover.
