More and More Android Phones Are Getting Gemini in Messages

Google is finally expanding the number of Android phones that can access Gemini through Google Messages. Previously, this feature was only available on select Pixel devices, as well as Samsung Galaxy devices including foldables, Galaxy S22 and later.

Now Google has updated its help pages to indicate that the feature is finally available on a wider range of Android phones, although there are still a few important requirements you’ll need to meet first.

Most importantly, you’ll need an Android device with 6GB or more of RAM. Unfortunately, this rules out some cheaper options. However, given that many mid-range devices these days have between 6GB and 8GB of RAM, we’re hoping the Gemini will be in a lot more hands. Additionally, Google says you must be at least 18 years old and have RCS messaging enabled .

You’ll also need to be signed into the latest version of Messages with a personal account that’s not managed by Family Link or a Google Workspace account, and be in one of the 165 countries that Gemini supports.

If you meet these requirements, you can take advantage of Google-powered AI directly within the messaging app on your Android phone.

How to use Gemini in Google Messages

Using Gemini in messages is a lot like chatting with friends. If this is your first time talking to Gemini in Messages, simply open the Messages app, tap Start Chat , and select Gemini as the recipient. If you have already started a chat, simply click on the chat to continue it.

Once you open the chat, you can start sending queries and asking questions to the AI-powered chatbot. Gemini in Messages works very similarly to how it works on the web, so don’t be afraid to experiment with its different capabilities.
