You Can Get a Free Month of Audiobooks on Spotify Right Now
To celebrate National Audiobook Month this June, Spotify is offering a month of free audiobooks. If you’re on Spotify’s free plan and have an account with the service in the US, you can sign up for a free trial that will give you access to audiobooks for a month from the date you sign up. You won’t be able to access audiobooks if your Spotify account is in other regions.
This trial includes up to 15 hours of audiobook listening, and if you’re smart with your choices, you can easily squeeze in two or three audiobooks. To sign up for this free trial, you can go toSpotify’s audiobooks page . The promotion is valid until June 30, 2024. After the trial period, you will be charged $9.99 per month for the Spotify Audiobook Access plan.
Even the paid plan limits you to 15 hours of listening per month, and unused listening time expires at the end of the month. Spotify allows you to top up your listening hours if you’re willing to pay, and the hours you buy expire 12 months after the purchase date, giving you more flexibility when choosing when to listen to books.
Unlike Audible, Spotify limits audiobook use to hours of listening. Audible plans offer “credits” that can be redeemed for books. One Audible credit gets you one book, and you can purchase more books by paying the listed price. Audible’s plans offer more flexibility since you can return audiobooks you don’t like, and if you like long books like epic fantasy series, then a single credit can give you access to more than 40 hours of listening. At the time of writing, Audible is also available in many more regions and accessible to more people.
However, there is hope that Spotify will catch up in terms of availability and be able to compete with Audible. If competition in the audiobook market is strong, we, the consumers, will end up benefiting the most. These aren’t the only two players in the audiobook market.
