Amazon’s “Blink Moments” Turns Your Camera Footage Into Shareable Videos

Amazon seems to have realized that part of our obsession with security cameras is the ability to share the moments we capture, whether they’re funny, scary, or just plain weird. To sweeten the deal for Blink Plus plan subscribers, Blink will now give you a daily summary of your events, combined into one shareable “moment.”

Jonathan Cohn, Blink’s head of product, seems to acknowledge that most surveillance video is not dangerous or threatening, but rather another format for capturing our daily lives. According to Blink’s press release, “Whether it’s the family playing outside, delivering packages, or the pets exploring the yard, Blink Moments brings together important moments into one video.”

While Blink Moments is starting to roll out today, it will take a few weeks for all subscribers to see the feature. Blink offers two tiers of plans : Blink Basic ($3 per month) for one camera or Plus ($10 per month) for more than one. Moments is only available at the higher tier, but according to Amazon, most customers have at least three Blink cameras anyway. The Plus plan already offers people detection, real-time recording, cloud video storage for up to 60 days, and motion-detected video recording.

Not to mention, if your camera captures a lot of footage, it can be a pain to scroll through all the saved clips. I suspect most people like me just don’t do it. A similar feature is available to me through my Eufy Pet Camera , which gives me a collection of my dog’s fun at the end of the day that I’m willing to share, and I’ll admit, it makes me more likely to actually see what the camera is recording (and sharing).

Blink, owned by Amazon, offers a wide range of cameras for indoor and outdoor use . I looked at a few of them and found that they were generally affordable, easy to install, and came with a nice, simple viewing app.
