How to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership After Prime Day Ends

Amazon’s biggest sale of the year, Prime Day , is set to start in July, but many early deals are sure to start just like in the past. To take advantage of everything the sale has to offer , you’ll need to be a Premier Member. If you signed up for an Amazon Prime account to take advantage of Prime Day but decide you don’t want to pay for an ongoing membership, you’ll have to cancel your subscription before the free trial ends.

How to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership

You can cancel your Prime subscription through your browser by first logging into your Amazon account. Amazon has a “End Your Prime Membership” button on the support page to start the process, or you can follow these steps:

  1. Click Account & Lists (under your name) in the top right corner of the navigation bar.

  2. Scroll down to the Manage Your Data section and click Close Amazon Account.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the next page and check the box that says “ Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon account and delete my data .” You will be asked to complete an optional cancellation survey, which you may decline.

  4. Click ” Close my account “.

Note that Amazon requires several clicks to complete the cancellation, giving you plenty of “opportunities” to change your mind.

How to Cancel Amazon Prime Using the Mobile App

If you prefer, you can cancel your Prime membership through the Amazon Shopping app. For this:

  1. Open the app and tap the profile icon at the bottom and center of the navigation bar (the person’s silhouette icon).

  2. Click the “Your Account” button at the top, scroll to “Manage your data” and click the “Close Amazon Account” button.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the next page and check the box that says “ Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon account and delete my data .”

  4. Finally, click on “ Close my account ”.

What you need to know when canceling your Prime membership

As mentioned, closing your account will immediately terminate your access. Amazon also offers you the option to temporarily pause your benefits and billing instead of canceling them completely. Either way, your Amazon account is still active—you just won’t have the Prime benefits.

Finally, if you have other subscriptions connected to your Prime account, they will end when your account goes dark. And if you signed up for Prime through the Android mobile shopping app or the Prime Video app for Android, you’ll have to go through a Google subscription to manage your membership.
