Finally Someone Is Creating an Artificial Intelligence Desktop

The strange thing about AI computers, from the Chomebook Plus to the Copilot+ , is that most of them until now have been laptops. There’s no reason why desktop computers couldn’t run AI features like Recall , and that’s what Qualcomm talked about during its Computex keynote on Sunday, where it hinted that it could run on the more desktop-based Copilot+ PC.

Touting the AI-focused Snapdragon X chips, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon told the crowd that the Snapdragon X and Copilot+ “will fit all PC form factors,” while showing a slide showing the Copilot+ running on a laptop, multiple tablets, and other PCs. and, most importantly, a desktop computer.

In its keynote, AMD revealed that Qualcomm won’t be the only chip company used in Copilot+ machines, but even taking into account competing processor makers, this is the first time anyone has hinted at a Copilot+ desktop (except for the dev kit , which may be difficult to obtain and is not really intended for the average user).

That’s all the company was willing to share for now. The rest of Qualcomm’s conference was dedicated to promoting Copilot+ as a whole, as well as the overall performance of the Snapdragon X Elite chip.

The desktop Snapdragon X and Copilot+ come in one of two forms. First is Apple’s iMac approach , in which Microsoft and its manufacturing partners will put Qualcomm’s laptop AI chips into desktops and be done with it. Alternatively, Qualcomm could develop a more powerful Snapdragon X chip that would make better use of the extra space that a full PC tower can provide. The latter will certainly require more work, as Qualcomm will have to make sure its chip will play well with GPUs and other components from other PC OEMs.

The first Copilot+ laptops will be released on June 18 , including models from Dell, Asus, Microsoft and other manufacturers, so it will likely be a while before the next wave begins.
