These Kenmore and Frigidaire Furnaces Are Being Recalled Due to Fire Risk.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled more than 200,000 stoves from Kenmore and Frigidaire because they pose a fire or burn risk. If you have a Kenmore or Frigidaire electric cooktop purchased between June 2001 and August 2009, you should check to see if your range is included in the recall. Here’s what you need to know about the recall and what to do with a recalled furnace.

Reason for revocation

The Frigidaire and Kenmore smooth top ranges included in the recall have a defect that may cause the burners to turn on spontaneously. Burners may also not turn off when turned off and may not turn on the correct heat setting. More than 200 cases have been reported in which furnaces have problems with the switches that control the burners. Faulty burners caused 14 fires and eight injuries from burns and smoke inhalation. The original recall was announced in 2009, but Electrolux reissued the recall due to more than 200 reported incidents since then.

How to find out if your stove is recalled

The furnace models included in the recall were sold between June 2001 and August 2009 and are top-end Kenmore and Frigidaire models. Model names included: Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional and Kenmore Elite. For a complete list of included serial numbers , please check with the US Consumer Product Commission to match your model number. Your appliance model number is located inside the drawer under the oven, on the right side of the drawer frame.

How to register a review

If your furnace is part of the recall, you can contact Electrolux for a free repair (if repair is possible) or a refund of your broken furnace removal fee, as well as a $50 gift card from Electrulux. The recall number for this lot is 24-235, for slabs manufactured in the United States, but the recall includes slabs that were sold in Canada. While it doesn’t look like the company will replace a device that can’t be repaired or give you back the money you originally spent, it still costs money to replace a faulty device due to the risk of fire.

Safety recommendations for affected slabs

Electrolux recommends that you do not leave anything on the burners when the stove is not in use to avoid causing a fire due to spontaneous heating of the burner. If you’re concerned about damage to your stove, you can also unplug it, eliminating the risk of fire and burns. The best way to ensure that a recalled furnace will not cause harm is to contact Electrolux to repair or replace the appliance.

How long does a review last?

The recall does not expire, so even if you find your stove included in the package weeks or months after it was released, you are likely still entitled to compensation from Electrolux. If for any reason you are unable to contact Electrolux or they do not respond to your request to file a recall, you may contact the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at (800) 638-2772 for assistance.
