You Need a Lazy Susan in Every Room
Lazy Susans aren’t just for the dinner table—they’re actually secret organizational cheat codes. You can use them for more than just side dishes, spices, or seasonings. Placing them throughout your home, in every room, will make it easier to grab from the back of shelves, stack things on top of each other, and generally radically change your cleaning and storage habits.
Here are the different styles to consider depending on what you’ll be using them for.
Using Lazy Susans in the Kitchen
The most obvious (and traditional) place for such turntables is the kitchen. I use basic one-tier lazy Susans throughout to organize everything from shelves to pantry to refrigerator. Mine look like this:
I especially like using them in the refrigerator, where they help me grab condiments and food from the back without having to reach (and knock over) everything stacked in the front. Others, like this one from Heshecein ($29.71), actually slide out on rails and also rotate 360 degrees, so you can pull them completely out of your cabinets or refrigerator for even easier access.
You can also use an extra large one to organize all the cleaning supplies you store under the sink, since I’m sure you know how painful it is to bend over to reach into the cabinet to look for a certain type of cleaning product, only to topple over. every bottle of Pine Sol and can of Lysol. Try this 16-inch version from OXO Good Grips ($19.95).
Using Lazy Susans in the Bathroom
I also have a set of simple record players shown above for my bathroom and I use them to store my skincare products and some makeup. (I have a lot of skincare and makeup, so I had to work hard to organize it all .) I also use a two-tier turntable for things like serums and moisturizers, which come in small bottles that are best stored on top. each other to save shelf space. I like this:
There are also several stylish looking models you can purchase specifically for organizing your beauty products for easy counter access, like this gold and white turntable ($11.69).
Using Lazy Susans in the Bedroom and Living Room
Consider using turntables for storage and living spaces. Some have compartments that can store not only kitchen utensils or makeup brushes, but also commonly used household items such as remote controls and charging cables. They can be stored outdoors or in a closet. This one is ideal for remote controls:
Others, like the one below, look nice enough to sit on a table. Try putting a cup with handles, small dishes or jewelry, trinkets, or anything you use frequently in one of these:
Once you get used to putting things away on a Lazy Susan, they will become invaluable for keeping things organized. I even have one for my tea set. I never use my tea set—I don’t drink tea—but you better believe it’s nicely displayed and easily accessible in case I ever wake up and decide to become a tea drinker.
