How to Remove AI From Google Search
Google’s AI keynote Google I/O is over, but Gemini has a long way to go before it can make Google’s AI dreams a reality . While many of Google’s AI features are months away, the AI Reviews feature is already available to all US users.
In the future, Google will be adding more AI features to the search page. This includes the ability to ask longer, more complex questions or even organize an entire search page into different sections using AI. If this sounds like too much for you, you can do something about it.
Disable AI in Google Search
While releasing all of its new AI features, Google also introduced something to help you go back . There’s now a new, easy-to-miss button at the top of the search results page called ” Internet .” If you switch to it, Google will only show you text links from websites, just like the good old days (although they may include advertisements).
The irony of having to click a button called “Internet” to get web search results was not lost on me. However, it will be a useful feature for anyone who prefers the old approach to Google search, which only shows the best results on the Internet, consisting of trusted sites.
The web filter will be searchable on desktop and mobile devices worldwide starting today and tomorrow, and you’ll soon see it in your search results. If you don’t find it in your toolbar, click the Advanced menu and it should be there.
When you switch to the web filter, your search results will also get rid of any media files or drawers. You won’t see sections for images, videos, or Google News. Instead, you’ll just see links (which themselves could point to YouTube videos or news stories), according to a Google Search Liaison post on X.
Google also confirmed to The Verge that the web filter will remain the same, even as Google continues to add more artificial intelligence features to the main Google search page.
AI can’t be stopped
While the web filter is a nice touch, it’s not a default option and you’ll have to constantly switch to it manually (as you do when switching to the Images or Maps filter). The move also made something else clear: Google doesn’t offer a way to disable AI search features on the default search page. We may eventually see Chrome extensions that can change Google’s search page, but for now, the only way to avoid Google’s search AI is to switch to a web filter.
