There Is Now an Official Wordle Archive

Since the New York Times bought Wordle, they’ve kept it simple – one word a day, five letters, that’s it. In the NYT Games app, it takes up one tile, unlike Crossword and Spelling Bee, where users can scroll sideways to play games from previous days. But now the situation is changing: subscribers will soon be able to access the archive , and WordleBot will also appear in the Games application.

Free archives exist, but the NYT keeps killing them.

If you wanted to play previous versions of Wordles, you used to be able to go to this unofficial Wordle archive , but NYT asked the creator to close it, and they did. Discussions on forums such as Reddit mention that other archives have been closed in the past.

As of now, the unofficial free Wordle Replay archive still exists and appears to be fully functional. Another free archive, Wordle Archive , works, but doesn’t accept the full range of legal assumptions – it told me that my trusty starter, ARISE, is not a legal word.

Where can I find the official Wordle archive?

The NYT says they are “rolling out” the archive to mobile and desktop versions starting May 7. I don’t see it on the NYT Games website , even though I’m a subscriber. You might have better luck.

The archive is expected to appear on the NYT Games app in the “coming weeks.” Once again, I don’t see it on mine, but I’ll look for it.

WordleBot is coming to the NYT Games app

Another big announcement from the NYT this week was that WordleBot will now be accessible from the Games app. Currently, when you solve a Wordle puzzle online, there is a link to compare your performance with WordleBot’s results. (As I ‘ve written before , it’s a bot that solves a puzzle with computer precision and then scores your skill, luck, and the number of guesses you made to find the answer.)

Until now, the WordleBot link was missing from the Games app, meaning I never bothered to find it. If the link was right here, I could look at it after solving the puzzle each day, which could ultimately make me better at solving Wordle. Again, I don’t see the bot in my app yet, but the NYT has promised one is on the way.
