Older Galaxy Phones Will Get Some UI 6.1 Features, but Not All
Samsung has already confirmed that its older flagship devices will soon receive the latest Galaxy OS update – One UI 6.1. But while this update will bring many of the Galaxy AI features to these older Galaxy devices , reports from South Korean users who have already installed the update indicate that some of these devices will only get a small Galaxy AI experience.
Devices released in 2022 will have all the same AI features as the Galaxy S23 FE, including everything except Instant Slo-mo. But some devices launching in 2021, such as the Galaxy S21 series and Galaxy Z Flip 3, will have far fewer features, with only two Galaxy AI features coming to these devices.
Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra users will be able to use the Circle to Search and Magic Rewrite features, but they will miss out on the rest of the features that Galaxy AI offers, including Live Translate, Instant Slomo and more. Samsung hasn’t said whether these limitations are hardware-related, which is what Google initially said when it said Gemini wouldn’t come to the base Pixel 8. ( It later made its way to this phone without issue ).
How to install One UI 6.1 on your Galaxy device
Samsung hasn’t specified how quickly the update is rolling out to the S21 and Z Flip 3 devices, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you should see it in the next few days. To download the update to eligible devices, go to Settings > Software Update and click the Download & Install button. All available updates will be downloaded and applied to your device.
It’s worth noting that the Galaxy S21 FE is not included in this particular update version. It’s unclear exactly when the update will be available for this device and some others outside of South Korea, but a post from host @theonecid says S21 FE, A53 and A54 users should receive it within a month, at least in Canada. It’s likely that a US release will occur at the same time or shortly thereafter.
