If the Latest Windows 11 Update Broke Your VPN, Here’s How to Fix It
Microsoft is investigating reports of the latest Windows 11 April update breaking some VPN apps for users. The update, called KB5036893, brought several improvements to Windows 11. Unfortunately, it also appears to break VPN apps that run using a TPM-backed certificate.
According to Reddit user Flo-TPG, the exact problem users are having seems to be that the VPN can’t find the certificate it needs to use with the Extensible Authentication Protocol. Now that Microsoft has confirmed that they are aware of this issue and are investigating it, we hope to find a solution soon.
Unfortunately, this won’t help anyone currently trying to use a VPN with Windows 11. If you’ve installed the KB5036893 update, your only real option is to uninstall it and downgrade to a previous version of Windows 11.
How to remove Windows 11 update
If you encounter any problems with the new Windows 11 update, you can always go back to the previous version thanks to the convenient built-in system that Microsoft has included in the operating system.
-
First, open the Settings menu on your Windows 11 computer.
-
Go to Windows Update .
-
Now click on Update History .
-
Scroll to the bottom and select Uninstall updates .
-
Find the update you need to uninstall (in this case, you need to look for update KB5036893 ), click Uninstall and complete the process.
Once the update’s uninstallation is complete, your system will restart and you’ll be running the old version of Windows 11 again. Keep in mind that downgrading some of the larger Windows 11 updates may remove some features from your operating system.
