This Google Update Fixes the Missed Call Error on Pixels
One of the key functions of your smartphone is the ability to make and receive calls and text messages. When this basic functionality stops working, it’s logical that people will start complaining. This has been the case with the Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel Fold, with customers reporting that they are missing calls and texts because the phone won’t ring and text messages won’t arrive.
These problems are extremely difficult to deal with (your phone should be, first and foremost, a phone). But fortunately, a solution is now available. This is made possible by the Pixel’s second April OTA update , which Google claims should fix the annoying cellular bug. The OTA update is already available and is gradually rolling out to owners of Pixel 7, Pixel 8 , Pixel 8 Pro or Pixel Fold .
This issue wasn’t affecting all Pixel device users, but there were definitely enough complaints to get Google’s attention. But even if your Pixel is running fine, there’s a reason to update it as soon as it arrives on your device: The OTA update is part of Android 14 QPR2 for the Pixel, which also includes new security patches for all Pixel devices starting with the Pixel 7. While you should get into the habit of always downloading security updates as soon as they become available, there are some additional incentives for customers experiencing cellular service issues.
Unfortunately, it appears that the update is not yet available for manual installation. When using the “Check for updates” option in my Pixel 8’s settings, I couldn’t get to it. It won’t hurt to check for this update periodically, but you may have to wait until Google releases it. This is unfortunate as I’m sure many would prefer to download the update sooner rather than later, but at least a fix is in sight.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether this will completely solve the problems. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have a lot going for them: I praised Google’s approach to its latest lineup in my Pixel 8 Pro review . Hopefully this issue is just a small step in the ongoing string of successes for the Pixel line of smartphones.
