You Can Disable All Chrome Extensions in One Click
Google Chrome is testing a new feature that allows you to enable or disable all extensions with the click of a button. Whether it’s for debugging or saving resources, there are plenty of reasons why you might want to use this feature, which was first spotted by Gamer Stones . I was able to find this feature in stable builds of Chrome (version 123.0.6312.123 to be exact) on Windows and Mac.
Why you might want to use this feature
Sometimes web pages simply don’t load properly or some elements don’t work the way you expect. If you can’t submit a form or parts of the web page seem to be broken, the first step in troubleshooting is to check if the extension is causing problems. Previously, you had to switch to an incognito window where most extensions are disabled by default, or manually disable all extensions to see if that fixed the problem.
With this new feature, you can quickly disable all extensions and reload the page to determine the cause of the problem. Likewise, if your laptop’s battery is low or your computer is running slow, you can quickly disable all Chrome extensions to improve performance. You may also consider using this feature when you are taking an online test, using an important application, or in other situations where you need to disable browser extensions.
How to disable all Chrome extensions in one click
This setting is hidden behind a Chrome flag. You can access it by opening Google Chrome and typing in the address bar: chrome://flags . Now use the search bar to find Extensions menu access control and click the drop-down menu next to it. Select Enabled . Once this is done, you can restart Google Chrome.
You can now open any website and click on the Extensions icon in the toolbar. It is located to the right of the address bar, and its icon looks like a piece of a puzzle. When you click this button, you will see a switch next to Extensions . Click here to disable all extensions on this site. You can press the same switch to turn them on again. You can also click the radio buttons next to any of the extensions in the list to control them individually.
