The Best Way to Clean Your Hairdryer (and How Often You Should Do It)
You (hopefully) already know that your brush needs to be cleaned at least once every couple of weeks , which not only keeps it in good condition, but also prevents your hair from getting dirty or damaged. Hair dryers are another beauty tool, along with makeup brushes , that you should clean regularly.
Just like your brush, your hair dryer quickly accumulates hair, dust, and products (like hair sprays and protection sprays) in its vents, which, if blocked, can cause your hair dryer to overheat. A hotter-than-usual hairdryer can damage or break your hair, and less airflow means your hair will take longer to dry. It is also a fire hazard.
Ideally, you’ll clean your hair dryer every one to three weeks, depending on how often you use it, but it’s best to start with once.
How to clean a hair dryer
To clean your dryer you will need at least a paper towel or cloth:
-
Unplug your dryer before removing or cleaning any parts.
-
Remove the filter drier. Depending on your dryer model, it may pop out or unscrew, or you may need to remove the screws with a screwdriver.
-
Rinse the filter under running water until it is clean and dry it with a paper towel or cloth.
-
Replace the filter as soon as it is completely dry.
If you can’t remove the filter, you can use a toothbrush to scrub out any dirt (again, make sure the dryer is unplugged and the filter is completely dry before plugging it back in). You can also use a vacuum cleaner with a dusting brush or a crevice cleaner to suck out dirt and debris from the filter and vent.
