Microsoft Edge Has a New “Enlarge Image” Command
If you’ve ever had to get dangerously close to your computer screen to view an infographic or download and enlarge a fuzzy photo, a new feature in Microsoft Edge hopes to ease that pain. A feature called “Enlarge Image” allows you to look at any image in more detail without having to open it in a new tab or download it.
How does image magnification work in Edge?
Image magnification works from the right-click context menu. It enlarges any image into a separate overlay window where you can zoom in and out using controls. And if you like keyboard shortcuts, just hover your mouse over any image and press the Ctrl key twice.
Several limitations of image magnification
Of course, there are a few drawbacks. You can’t zoom in indefinitely, as Edge resets the image after multiple zooms. It is also not possible to use the mouse to control zoom levels by scrolling. You may also find that some high-resolution images take a while to render in the overlay window.
Despite these shortcomings, it is still a handy tool. I often find it difficult to enlarge photos on social sites or look in more detail at an image on a map. It also helps me make sense of illegible text on photos.
