Five Unexpected Ways to Use Plasti Dip Around the House
Plasti Dip is a flexible coating designed to adhere to most surfaces and is commonly used on tool handles. It is designed for use outdoors and in extreme temperatures, and can extend the life of metal surfaces by protecting them from moisture. Besides adding color, Plasti Dip has many other practical uses. Here are some of my favorites.
Tool handles
By far the most common application for Plasti Dip is in tool handles. In this case, the best approach is to use a traditional Plasti Dip container to cover tool handles. Plasti Dip not only adds color, but also acts as an insulator against electricity and heat, making metal tools safer and easier to use. To achieve a smooth finish, you should provide a way to hold the tools in place while the handles dry. At this point you can use a clamp or even a clothesline with clamps.
Pens
Handles on equipment such as height-adjustable tables, tool accessories and clamps can be coated with Plasti Dip to make them more comfortable to use. You can also use Plasti Dip on cabinet hardware handles, door handles, and drawer pulls to give an old handle new life or make it easier to grip. For best results, remove the handles completely and submerge them in water without submerging the hardware that secures them to your furniture or equipment. Do not apply Plasti Dip to moving parts or screw and bolt surfaces.
Automotive parts
To successfully apply Plasti Dip to vehicle parts, you will need a rattle can in spray form to cover the areas you want to treat. You can also use a paint sprayer with a Plasti Dip type designed for large area sprayers , although applying this type of paint requires some practice to get it right. For small areas, such as mud flaps inside wheel wells or rims, you can use an aerosol can, thoroughly cleaning the surface with soapy water and masking the surrounding areas that you don’t want paint on. Plasti Dip can help protect your vehicle’s undercarriage from rust while also improving the appearance of your wheels. For a more professional look, you can opt for a car kit that includes a special spray nozzle and gloss finish spray.
Rugs
To give the bottom of your rug a non-slip finish, you can use Plasti Dip Super Grip Spray . Prepare the surface by vacuuming the carpet and apply the coating with a cloth outdoors. Be sure to tape the edges of the carpet, as well as the tassels, to avoid accidentally spraying them. Once the coating is dry, your rug will no longer be slippery, preventing trips and slips.
Safety glass
For use on virtually any type of glass, from jelly jars to windows, clear Plasti Dip can be applied as a protective coating. In addition to providing glass bottles with some resistance to shattering, the Plasti Dip coating will hold shards of glass together if it breaks, reducing the danger. Applying Plasti Dip to glass requires proper ventilation and masking, but you also need to make sure the glass can dry in a light enough wind to get the best results. Keep in mind that using Plasti Dip to coat glass, even if it is clear, will at least partially darken the glass – it is not a completely clear coat.
