All the Rumors About PS5 Pro

The PlayStation 5 has only been out for four years and still has a lot of life left in it, but Sony may be considering a mid-cycle refresh of the console in the form of the more powerful PS5 Pro. In fact, some rumors suggest that we could see the new console as early as this year, and that it will include some pretty major updates.

Of course, Sony hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet or even admitted that it’s working on a PS5 successor. But judging by the timing of the PS4 Pro’s release in November 2016, three years after the machine went live, it’s likely that Sony is looking to improve its newest console as well.

Until we get official news, of course, this is all rumors and speculation, but it could be fun too. Here’s everything you need to know (assuming there’s anything to know at all) about the PS5 Pro.

Potential PS5 Pro Features: Improved performance and 8K gaming.

When it comes to the potential price and specs of the PS5 Pro, there isn’t much to say. However, recent rumors and possible leaks suggest that the PS5 Pro will offer 33.5 teraflops of power. Yes, that’s actually the name of the measurement, and it’s almost three times the power of the PS5 today.

Additionally, the issue is that the GPU in the PS5 Pro will provide 45% faster rasterization performance and that it can use AI scaling in a method similar to Nvidia’s DLSS, resulting in smoother gameplay and optimization even in the most demanding games (DLSS absolutely preserved the performance of Star Citizen on PC, and it would be great to see similar functionality on PS5 Pro).

The source of this latest leak, Inside Gaming , suggests that the PS5 Pro will also offer system memory speeds up to 28% faster than the base PS5 (an increase to 576GB/s from the current 448GB/s). The new system will also reportedly feature a “High CPU Frequency Mode” that will provide a 10% performance increase over the existing console.

Further rumors hint that the PS5 Pro will be future-proofed for 8K gaming following a firmware update and will feature a custom machine learning architecture.

When will PS5 Pro be released?

With the PS5 already in the second half of its life cycle, at least according to Sony’s earnings report in February, releasing the PS5 Pro makes sense sooner rather than later. There are suggestions that we could see the release of a more powerful PlayStation 5 as early as fall 2024. Like the PS4, which was replaced by the Pro model three years later, the base PS5 was released in the fall, so it seems reasonable to assume that Sony will also try to position the PS5 Pro as a must-have holiday gift. Analyst Colin Moriarty said third-party studio publishers have already been briefed on the PS5 Pro’s specifications, offering additional support for an imminent release.

Of course, all of this could change, as Sony has yet to provide any official confirmation or information about the PS5 Pro, although the rumors are certainly widespread enough to suggest that this isn’t exactly wishful thinking. Of course, there have been rumors about a Nintendo Switch sequel even before the release of the Switch OLED, so rumors and speculation don’t always pan out as well as you might think.
