You Should Make Rice Krispies, but With Popcorn.
Rice Krispies are a classic snack, and for good reason: they’re easy to make, satisfying to chew, and can be customized in countless ways. One such treat option from Tiktok user @kerlovichkitchen is to use popcorn as a base. Unlike traditional Rice Krispies, where the cereal is simply a neutral delivery vehicle for the marshmallow mixture, popcorn adds a contrasting flavor and texture, offsetting the sweetness with butter and salt and adding a hefty crunch.
We’ve previously suggested using plain potato chips instead of Rice Krispies , which are a combination that delivers amazing salty, sweet, and crunchy flavor. This combination goes even further by adding a ton of popcorn kernels for a snack that will satisfy just about all your cravings.
How to make Rice Krispies with Popcorn
1. Put in corn
Use a standard bag of microwave popcorn, which will yield about 10-12 cups; set it aside to cool.
2. Prepare marshmallow sauce.
Next, melt eight tablespoons of butter and a 16-ounce bag of marshmallows over low heat in a large saucepan, stirring until smooth. If you prefer a softer texture, add half a cup of sweetened condensed milk .
3. Add popcorn.
Once the mixture is smooth, remove it from the heat and add the popcorn. Stir until the marshmallow mixture evenly coats the popcorn, then place in a greased pan.
At this point, you may be tempted to eat it straight from the pan while still warm, which is always an acceptable option. If you want, you can also wait for the mixture to cool before cutting it into squares and enjoying.
