How to Set up Voicemail on IPhone
It’s nice to receive calls from friends and family, but sometimes you need a little time. Or maybe you just suspect that an unknown number is calling you. Either way, at times like these, you need to send callers straight to voicemail. If you haven’t set up voicemail on your iPhone, it’s pretty easy to do.
It’s worth noting that voicemail is a carrier feature, so if for some reason you can’t set up voicemail on your iPhone, you may need to contact your carrier.
What is Visual Voicemail?
One of the convenient features of the iPhone is visual voicemail: mostcarriers support this feature, but it is possible that some do not support it or may require a specific plan. Visual voicemail simply means you can view your voicemail messages in a list on your iPhone, rather than having to call your carrier’s voicemail service and enter your voicemail password. You can play/pause and even rewind messages in Visual Voicemail.
How to enable live voicemail
A new feature in iOS 17 called Live Voicemail allows you to automatically see a live transcription when someone leaves you a message. It’s a bit like the Call Screen feature available on Google Pixel phones. Live Voicemail does not require a carrier to support the feature and works on all iPhones that support iOS 17, including the iPhone XR and up to the iPhone 15 series. To enable live voicemail, go to Settings and find the Phone setting. You should then see the Live Voicemail option and tap the switch to turn it on. If the switch is green, live voicemail is enabled.
How to Set Up Voicemail on iPhone
To set up voicemail on your iPhone, first open the Phone app. Then click the Voicemail icon in the lower right corner (the icon looks like two circles connected by a line). If this is your first time setting up voicemail, you should see a message with a Set Up Now button. Next, you will be asked to create a voicemail password, which is usually four digits. You will then be asked to select a greeting. You can select Default, which will be your standard automatic voicemail greeting, or you can record your own greeting. To record your own greeting, press the record button and the stop button when you’re done. When you’re happy with the results, click “Save” in the top right corner and your voicemail is now set up. When you set up voicemail, visual voicemail should also be turned on, but it may require you to restart your iPhone for it to work.
How to Listen to Voicemail Messages on iPhone
To listen to voicemail messages, open the Phone app on your iPhone. Then tap the Voicemail tab in the bottom right corner. If your carrier supports visual voicemail, you’ll see your voicemail messages listed in the Voicemail tab, along with a transcript of their messages. Tap the message you want to listen to and press the play button. Tapping the speaker icon will play the message through your iPhone’s speaker. The blue phone icon will call the person back, and the red trash icon will delete the message. If you want to save a voicemail, tap the Share icon (an up-pointing arrow with a frame) to save it to your iPhone or share it via Messages or AirDrop.
