How to Factory Reset PS4 or PS5

The PS5 and PS4 are some of Sony’s best-selling consoles, but like any other technology, they are not without their problems. Some of these fixes can be resolved by restarting your PlayStation console, and there are several ways to do this.

How to factory reset PS5

First, turn on your PS5 and go to Settings (i.e. the gear icon in the top right corner of the home screen next to your profile picture). Then go to “System” and select “System Software”. Before you select Reset Options , there is an option in the System Software menu that allows you to back up your PS5 data and copy it to an external hard drive. Then select “Reset Options” from this menu and you will be presented with several options: “Clear training dictionary” , “Restore default settings” and “Reset console “. Clear Learning Dictionary will clear all text you entered on PS5. Restore Defaults will return all your settings to default values, but will not affect your data. Resetting your console will completely reset your console and erase everything. Select Reset Console, then click Reset, and your PS5 will begin the factory reset process, which won’t take long. Once this is done, your PS5 will reboot and load into the setup screen.

How to reinstall PS5 software

Alternatively, if you’re having problems with the PS5 system software itself, you can reinstall it. First, get a USB drive with a capacity of 2 GB or more, formatted in FAT32 or exFAT. On your USB drive, create a PS5 folder and then another folder called UPDATE. Then download the reinstall file from the Sony website and copy it to a USB drive. Connect the USB drive to your PS5 console and boot the console into Safe Mode by pressing and holding the Power button for a few seconds until you hear two beeps. Once in safe mode , select “Reset PS5” (reinstall system software) from the menu. Your PS5 should now reinstall the system software, which will take a few minutes; once this is done, it will boot back to the initial setup screen.

How to factory reset PS4

If you’re having problems, like your PS4 won’t boot or games won’t launch, then a factory reset might fix it. Before you do this, you should deactivate your account on PS4 as your primary console. This will ensure that you don’t have any problems setting up your PS4 after a reboot. To deactivate, turn on your PS4 and go to Settings . Then go to Account Management and the next screen will ask you to activate or deactivate your PS4 as your primary console. Select Deactivate from the menu and then select Yes .

Now, to factory reset your PS4, go to Settings and keep scrolling until you see the Initialize option. After that, select “Initialize PS4”. Please note that this step will get rid of everything stored on your console. Then select “Full” on the next screen and the reset process will begin. The reset will take a few minutes, and once it’s done, your PS4 will boot up again and display the setup screen.

How to Factory Reset PS4 in Safe Mode

If for some reason you can’t access your PS4’s software, another option is to perform a factory reset using Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, first turn off your PS4 completely. Then press and hold the Power button for eight seconds until you hear a beep. As soon as you hear a beep, release the Power button. Next, you need to connect your PS4 controller to the console using a USB cable as wireless mode will not work. Using your console, scroll down the menu until you see Initialize PS4 . Then select “Full” from the next menu and your PS4 will perform a factory reset.

How to reinstall PS4 software

If all else fails, the last option is to reinstall your PS4 software. This should be your last resort if you are still having problems. To reinstall, you will first need a USB drive that is at least 2GB in capacity and formatted in FAT32 or exFAT. Once you find it, create a folder on your USB drive called PS4 and another folder inside it called UPDATE. Then go to the PS4 firmware page and download the PS4 firmware file to your computer. After that, copy the file to the USB drive in the UPDATE folder you created. Once this is done, connect the USB drive to your console and boot your PS4 into Safe Mode by following the steps above. In Safe Mode, you should see an additional option to Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software). Select this option, then select Update from USB Drive and click OK. Your PS4 should now reinstall the system software, which will take a few minutes. Your PS4 will then boot into the initial setup screen.
