These New Android Features Will Keep You Safe Online
Google is rolling out a new security feature that should make web browsing safer for Android users. Android’s new Safe Browsing feature notifies users about malicious websites and links. This feature will work when users use the built-in browsers of certain applications.
Android Safe Browsing exists as part of the Google Play Services app that comes with all Android phones, meaning that once enabled, it will work across a variety of browsers and apps. The goal is to prevent Android users from downloading malware or accidentally clicking on phishing links that could steal personal or login information when you’re browsing the web in, say, a social networking app rather than the standard one. browser.
Along with Android’s Safe Browsing feature is a Live Threat Detection toggle that provides even more accurate threat detection. Both features use Android’s SafetyNet Safe Browsing API, which scans links and websites for threats and alerts you when something you encounter is unsafe. While the new feature shouldn’t be your only line of defense against malware or phishing attempts , it’s an added layer of protection that should help keep your mobile devices (and your personal data) more secure.
How to Enable Android Safe Browsing and Real-Time Threat Detection
Google has been testing Android Safe Browsing in earnest for the past few months, and the feature was even available to select users back in October 2023, but now it’s finally rolling out to everyone as part of the latest Google Play Services update, which you can get from Google Play Store.
After installing the latest Google Play Services update, you can enable Android Safe Browsing from a new menu in your device’s Settings app.
