The newest Apple Watches—Series 9 and Ultra 2—made headlines in January for banning the blood oxygen measurement feature . There are ways to get this feature on these models before it’s too late , but if you want this feature and don’t mind getting an older model, the Series 7 is a good option.
It’s the GPS+Cellular version, which means you can leave your phone at home and still receive calls and listen to music. It also features a large 45mm screen with a rubber sport band (and is only available in green). You can see Apple’s full Series 7 specs here and here , and PCMag’s full “standout” review can be read here. You’ll still get the latest watchOS 10 updates as Apple updates Apple Watch Series 4 and later models .
If you bought the 45mm Apple Watch Series 9 with GPS and Cellular , it would cost you $529. The main hardware differences between the two are the processor: S7 SiP versus S9; memory capacity is 32 GB compared to 64 GB for Series 9; and Bluetooth, which is version 5.0 instead of 5.3. Brightness is about half that of the Series 9 (1000 nits). They both have an Always-On display feature and have the same battery life of 18 hours. The Series 7 doesn’t have crash detection, on-device Siri, double-tap gesture controls, or precise search for your iPhone.
