How to Charge a Ring Doorbell
The Ring Doorbell’s internal battery makes it incredibly convenient to use. There is no need for external wiring or expensive electrician visits. Simply attach a Ring doorbell next to your door and you’ll instantly get all the benefits of a smart video doorbell. But the downside to the internal battery is that it will inevitably die, and it’s important to recharge it before it runs out completely: if this happens, the ring doorbell will reboot and you’ll have to go through the whole setup process all over again. This is hassle you don’t need.
Ring has a battery monitoring process, and the app will notify you when the battery starts to get low. In this case, follow these steps to quickly charge the battery.
How to Recharge Your Ring Doorbell Batteries
You can check your Ring doorbell’s battery charge from the app at any time. Go to Menu > Devices and select the doorbell. Here, go to Power Settings and under Battery Status, you will see the Battery Level option, which will show you the current battery level.
If you have a 1st or 2nd generation Ring doorbell, you’ll need to remove the entire unit from the wall to charge it (we’ll cover this in more detail in the section below). But first, let’s talk about all the latest models. All other models (Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell 3, Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, Ring Video Doorbell 4 and Ring Battery Doorbell Plus) are equipped with a quick-release battery pack that is located under the front panels.
First, let’s start by removing the front panel. To do this, remove one screw at the bottom of the bezel using the torx head of the screw (one will be in the doorbell box).
Then remove the bezel by placing your finger under the flap and pulling away from the wall.
Now press the black tab and slide the battery down. If you have another battery, please insert it to ensure uninterrupted operation.
Connect the micro-USB charger to the battery to charge it. When it is charging, the red and green indicators light up. When only the green light is on, the battery is fully charged. Charging may take 5 to 10 hours.
Once this is done, follow the above steps but in reverse order. Insert the battery pack into the doorbell until it clicks. Wait about half a minute for the doorbell to turn on. Then install the bezel by sliding it to the top and clicking it into place at the bottom. Then use the torx screw to screw it back in.
How to Charge a 1st and 2nd Generation Ring Doorbell
If you are using a 1st or 2nd generation doorbell, the process is slightly different. Here you will first need to remove the two star screws from the bottom.
Then slide the entire doorbell assembly up and out of the mounting bracket. Connect the micro-USB cable to the back of the Ring Doorbell (you’ll find the connector in the top right corner). While charging, the front light will show you the charge percentage. When the light is blue, the doorbell is fully charged.
Once this is done, disconnect the charging cable, place the device back on the mounting bracket and secure the two star screws.
