How to Disable Siri on All Your Apple Devices
Using Siri is perhaps the most annoying part of working in the Apple ecosystem. In particular, the voice assistant features seem to be more of a hindrance than a benefit. (No, Siri, I didn’t want you to show me a preview of Google results for a question tangentially related to what I actually asked. I’m not good at Google myself.)
Regardless of your specific complaints about Siri, if you’d prefer to disable the feature entirely, here’s how to do it.
How to turn off Siri on your iPhone or iPad
You can quickly turn off Siri on your iPhone or iPad. Simply go to Settings > Siri & Search and turn off the following features:
-
Listen to “Hey Siri”
-
Press the side button for Siri
You’ll be asked to confirm if you want to get rid of Siri. Select Stop Using Siri and you’ll turn off the voice assistant.
Let’s make one thing clear: We don’t recommend turning off Siri’s machine learning component. The voice assistant can be annoying, but the machine learning features are very useful. This is what allows Siri to suggest you open certain apps based on the time of day, your location, and other triggers. You’ll also get useful app suggestions, such as searching for movies in the movie database app.
If you don’t want to use any of Siri’s machine learning features, you can scroll down to the Suggestions from Apple section on the same Settings page and turn off all options there. You can even scroll down, select each app individually, and disable them all to prevent Siri from learning about your usage patterns.
Turn off Siri on your Mac
To turn off Siri on a Mac, click the Apple logo in the top left corner and choose System Preferences > Siri & Spotlight . On this page, turn off the Ask Siri option and you’re good to go.
Get rid of Siri on Apple Watch
You can also easily stop using Siri on Apple Watch. Go to the Watch app on your iPhone and turn off all options under Ask Siri . When asked to confirm, select Turn off Siri .
Remove Siri on your AirPods
You can also prevent AirPods from launching Siri. To do this, put on AirPods. Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth . Press the i button next to your AirPods. Now press Left and select any option except Siri. Return to the previous page, select “Right ” and again select any non-Siri option.
Turn off Siri on Apple TV
If you have an Apple TV, you can quickly turn off Siri by going to Settings > Siri and selecting Siri to turn it off.
Turn off Siri on HomePod
Try the “Hey Siri, turn off Hey Siri” command to get the job done. Note that this will only stop the HomePod from listening for the “Hey Siri” command. You’ll still be able to use Siri by pressing and holding the top of the HomePod.
