Everything We Expect to See at CES 2024

CES 2024 is almost here. This year will be my first time attending the event and I’m preparing to be bombarded with more tech news than I can handle. If you’re interested in continuing but aren’t sure what the Consumer Electronics Show is all about, here’s what to expect.

When is CES 2024?

This year’s CES will run from Tuesday, January 9th to Friday, January 12th. However, before the official start of the conference, there are media events on Sunday the 7th and Monday the 8th.

As usual, the conference takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, with multiple locations. Pre-show media events are held at Mandalay Bay, with major press conferences at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and Venetian Expo. But there’s a lot going on across the strip, depending on the brand.

Rest assured, if you follow the tech world, you’ll be seeing a lot of tech news in the next week.

Which brands are exhibiting at CES?

A lot of them.

CES is a large conference that includes companies you know and many that you don’t. In recent years, it has become a desirable place for startups to showcase their future products and services.

The CES Featured Attendees page features 25 brands that are sure to make big announcements during the conference, including:

  • AARP

  • Abbott

  • Accenture

  • AMG (Allen Media Group)

  • Amazon

  • Caterpillar

  • Charter communications

  • Google

  • Hyundai

  • IBM

  • Indie Offline Call

  • Intel

  • John Deere

  • Kia

  • Lenovo

  • LG

  • L’Oreal

  • NBCUniversal

  • Mercedes Benz

  • Panasonic

  • Reddit

  • Roku

  • Samsung

  • Sony

  • Qualcomm

But those are just 25 names out of 4,274, at least according to the CES exhibitor directory . You can sort this list by category to get a better idea of how many companies represent each type of technology. For example, there are 878 results for AI-related companies, but only 30 for NFTs. (Unrelated: Anyone want to buy Bored Ape?)

What to expect from CES 2024?

Companies don’t tend to make many important announcements before the conference starts. (After all, why hold onto a spot at CES if you’re going to reveal everything ahead of time?) But in addition to the few announcements we have, there are plenty of tech trends right now that are likely to manifest as device upgrades and services from thousands of brands represented at the conference. Here’s a preview of what to look out for:

AI

AI was the technology story of 2023, and will continue to be so in 2024. While last year’s CES ChatGPT was less than two months old, companies were feverishly working to either develop their own LLMs or incorporate existing LLMs into their platforms.

As noted above, the conference features nearly 900 AI-related companies, so expect to see plenty of generative AI-powered products and services this year. But you can also see companies like Intel, AMD and NVIDIA pushing NPUs (neural processing units), hardware specifically designed to handle AI calculations. These companies are already talking about ” AI PCs ,” and it’s likely that these developments will continue at CES. In fact, Intel is hosting an event on January 8 with Dell, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft to discuss AI-powered PCs.

TVs

CES and TVs go hand in hand. Last year , LG introduced its OLED M TV , a completely wireless display that streams all content from an external receiver. At the time , Samsung showed off its 76-inch MicroLED TV , which it called “the world’s smallest and most affordable MicroLED screen.”

TV manufacturer Displace has already announced that they are showing : the 27-inch Displace Mini and the 55-inch Displace Flex. These TVs can last a month on battery life (assuming you use it for six hours a day), and the Flex supports an optional wireless charging cradle.

Again, the AI will be the player here. LG actually announced its 2024 TV lineup ahead of CES , which uses AI upscaling to sharpen on-screen content and refresh rates of up to 144Hz. And as Mashable highlights , we expect to see foldable TVs, wireless TVs that are easier to mount, and TVs that reach 10,000 nits of brightness.

AR/VR

AR/VR, once a niche in the tech space, is finally starting to gain traction. Apple turned heads with the announcement of the Vision Pro , while the Meta Quest 3 offers the best of Apple’s features in a much cheaper package, not to mention one that you can actually buy .

According to the CES exhibitor directory, there are 345 companies associated with AR/VR, from Hisense to Magic Leap to Panasonic. Expect new typesets and strategies from this place.

Smart House

Smart home technologies have never been as diverse and accessible as they are now. Of course, this will not slow down companies. Just look at LG: Late last year, the company issued a press release announcing its AI Smart Home Agent , a small robot that acts as the “moving hub of a smart home.” LG will be showcasing this unique smart home friend at CES, so we’ll learn more about how this robot constantly analyzes both your home (and you) to change smart devices accordingly.

There are countless smart home technology companies, and many of them will be exhibiting at CES. Let’s see what they plan to offer.

Cars

We don’t talk much about the cars on Lifehacker, but they will be at CES. Expect to see announcements from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Kia and Hyundai. However, following the auto industry strikes last year, American auto companies such as GM, Ford and Stellantis will not attend the conference.
