How to Record Phone Calls on Your IPhone
Being able to record a phone call for later use can be useful for both work and personal reasons. Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t made it easy, since the iPhone doesn’t actually allow you to record phone calls. Instead, you’ll have to rely on recording the call using a second phone or software designed to bypass Apple’s restrictions. Here are two suggestions on how to do this.
First, make sure that recording conversations is legal where you are.
Before you start recording calls left and right, I would recommend slowing down and doing a little research first. Depending on what state or country you live in, recording phone calls may require you to get permission from the other party or may be completely illegal. How to Record Phone Conversations on iPhone Using Google Voice
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to record phone conversations on your iPhone is to use Google Voice . The service is completely free, with the important caveat that you can only record incoming calls. Any calls you make yourself cannot be recorded.
To use it, you’ll need a Google account, which you’ll use to both sign up for Google Voice and get a phone number on the service. The app will tell you how to do this. After that, you can go to Settings > Calls > Incoming Call Options , and then turn on the toggle switch that will allow you to enable recording.
From there, it’s as simple as answering a phone call in Google Voice and then pressing 4 on your keyboard to start recording. Once completed, you will be automatically sent a recording of the conversation to your email.
How to record phone conversations on iPhone using a special application
Another useful way to record phone conversations on iPhone is to use a special application. Unfortunately, most of these third-party apps require some kind of subscription as they rely on additional services to allow you to record your phone calls. However, you can often try them for free, and many subscription options make managing these recordings, including transcription, much easier.
There are several options, including Recordator , which charges a flat fee per minute of recording, but I’m personally a fan of TapeACall . This is the app I use every time I need to record a phone call and it’s very easy to set up. However, it comes at a cost – $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year. If you don’t record calls often, this price may be prohibitive (though if you only want to record one call, there is a 7-day free trial). If you don’t want to pay for a service, Rev Call Recorder is a convenient free option, although you’ll have to pay for additional services (like transcription).
Whichever option you choose, the process works the same. For example, let’s say you try TapeACall. After creating an account and selecting your subscription options, all you have to do is open the app, press the record button, and then dial the call you want to record. When you’re ready to start recording, click the “Merge Call” button and it will connect to the TapeACall servers and start recording.
