Use These New Google Tools to Find Holiday Deals
Google gets a lot of traffic during the holidays, and for good reason: we use the search engine to search for deals from hundreds of stores and brands, which is a much more effective strategy than visiting one store individually. Now, when you search for things like “store deals” or “sneaker store deals,” Google will provide a whole new search based on products, images, and of course, discounts.
Price tracking based on browsing history
The new deals page will show deals and discounts on popular holiday categories such as electronics, clothing, toys and beauty products. Google will include offerings from popular big-box stores, as well as smaller direct-to-consumer sites and local stores.
This portion of the functionality is available to everyone, but if you use Chrome, you’ll see a lot more price tracking features. First, Chrome will show you your recently viewed products when you open a new tab in the Resume Browsing card. It will also tell you if there is an active promotion available on any of these products.
Google is also integrating a new price analysis tool into the Chrome sidebar. If you click the “Purchase Insights” button on a product, Google will show you the typical price as well as the price for the last 30 days. You will find this feature on the search page. Chrome users will also see a “Purchase Statistics” label in the address bar when the data is available.
Push notifications about price changes
Finally, Google is introducing push notifications for price tracking. There are two ways to set this up. When using Chrome on your mobile device, tap the bell icon next to a product to receive emails and push notifications when the product’s price drops. If you use Chrome on your computer, you can bookmark items in a new shopping list folder to track prices and receive email updates about price drops.
