The Best Way to Share PlayStation Screenshots

The slow death of Twitter (er, X) continues. Sony announced this week that it will be dropping X integration on PS4 and PS5 starting November 13th . From now on, PlayStation customers will not be able to share screenshots and gameplay footage with their X accounts, at least not directly from their accounts. consoles.

This isn’t great news for players who frequently upload their game progress to X, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of luck. It’s not difficult to share PlayStation screenshots and game clips anywhere if you set it up first.

Taking a screenshot or recording gameplay on PlayStation

You probably already know how to record gameplay on PS5 or PS4, but just in case, here’s a quick rundown:

  • PS5: Click the New button, then select Take Screenshot , Start New Recording , or Save Recent Gameplay . If you decide to start recording, you will need to click the Create button again to select Stop Recording when finished.

  • PS4: To take a screenshot, you can do one of the following: Press and hold the Share button on your controller; click the Share button and then click the triangle button; or click the Share button, then click Save Screenshot . To record a video, you can tap the Share button twice to start recording and then twice more to stop. You can also click the Share button and then select Save Video Clip .

Publishing PS5 screenshots and game recordings

Currently, the easiest way to share screenshots and videos from your PS5 is to use the PlayStation app for iPhone and Android . If you haven’t set it up yet, open the app, then go to Settings > Link your console to an app . The on-screen instructions will help you pair the app with your PS5.

You’ll also need to make sure your PS5 remains connected to the internet at all times, even in rest mode. To do this, turn on your PS5, go to Settings > System , select Energy Saving > Rest Mode Features , then turn on Stay Connected to the Internet .

After all these settings, your PlayStation app will automatically save your screenshots and game recordings (less than three minutes), but only for 14 days . If you want to add screenshots and game clips manually, go to the Media Gallery on PlayStation, highlight the media you want to move, click the Options button, then select Upload to PlayStation App .

You’ll find all of this media in the PlayStation app by going to Library > Captures . You can save media directly to your phone by tapping Download , or share it elsewhere by selecting Share > Share via .

However, you don’t have to rely on the PlayStation app. If you have a USB drive, connect it to your PS5. Then open Media Gallery , highlight the media you want to move, then click More > Copy to USB . Now you can connect this USB drive to your computer and share your content from there.

Publishing PS4 screenshots and game recordings

Unfortunately, the PlayStation app isn’t that useful for sharing PS4 screenshots and game recordings. You can use it, but with a weird workaround. To do this, make sure your console is paired with the app (see above for instructions), open the Capture Gallery , select the media you want to share, then click the Share button. When asked who you want to share the image with, select Messages , then select the friend you want to send the media to.

After clicking Send , open the PlayStation app, go to your messages, and then open the conversation with your friend. Here you will find common images that you can save to your phone.

But you can also use a USB drive to move media to and from your PS4. Open the Snapshot Gallery , select a screenshot or clip, click the Options button, then choose Copy to USB Drive . Finally, select the files and click Copy .
