What to Expect From Apple’s October Scary Fast Event
After much speculation, Apple has announced that it will host a new event this Monday, October 30th at 8:00 pm ET (5:00 pm PT). The only thing the company has told us about this presentation is that it’s titled “Scary Fast” and the inclusion of Finder’s face in the announcement above, suggesting that this event will be Mac themed.
What will Apple announce during the Scary Fast event?
However, these are all the significant details we have at the moment. It’s unclear exactly what news Apple plans to share about the Mac on Monday, and it’s unclear why the event would take place so late. After all, most Apple events start at 1:00 pm ET (10:00 pm PT), so it’s weird to force us to go online after work or dinner to check the news.
However, the rumors we have are exciting: Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told MacRumors that Apple plans to unveil new MacBook Pros during the event, focusing on the updated M3 line of chips. These could be new 13, 14 and 16-inch models with M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chipsets.
We don’t know much about the Apple M3 chip other than that it is expected to be built on TSMC’s 3nm process. The rest of the M series chips are built on 5nm technology, so this could lead to significant improvements in performance and efficiency.
While the new MacBook Pros are impressive, we really need to see an updated iMac. Apple never updated its famous desktop computer with the M2 chip, so this is still the same computer that the company introduced back in the spring of 2021. That’s not to say it’s a bad computer: the M1 chip, and then the M1 iMac, still perform great in 2023. But we’re long overdue for at least an updated version to complement the M1 iMac, so it would be great to see an M3 iMac during events on Monday.
