Differences Between Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
Ahead of the Made by Google event, there have been a lot of unofficial leaks and rumors about the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Now they’re official: Google on Wednesday unveiled its latest Android smartphones with new artificial intelligence features, a faster SoC and updated cameras. But how well do these two new devices fare when you put them head to head? And which one should you buy?
Display and camera size
The Pixel 8 is a more affordable option, starting at $699, which means Google is cutting some corners here and there. It all starts with screen size: the regular Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch screen, similar in size to the standard iPhone 15 Pro. The Pixel 8 Pro, which starts at $999, measures 6.7 inches.
This difference in display size also means a difference in resolution. The regular Pixel 8 features a 1080 x 2400 pixel display with a 20:9 aspect ratio at 428 PPI. The Pixel 8 Pro, on the other hand, has a higher resolution of 1344 x 2992 with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 489 PPI. Both displays look great, but if you prefer a larger screen, the Pixel 8 Pro is your best choice.
The cameras are another difference: while both devices have the same 50MP main camera, the Pixel 8 only offers a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 48MP ultra-wide-angle with a 48MP telephoto lens. RAM, storage and battery
The Pixel 8 comes with 128GB and 256GB storage options, while the Pixel 8 Pro comes with 512GB and 1TB storage options. The Pixel 8 offers over 24 hours of charging thanks to its 4,575mAh battery, and Google claims battery life is the same as the larger Pixel 8 Pro, which has a 5,050mAh battery. No matter which one you choose, you’ll have reliable storage and decent battery life, especially when combined with the new battery improvements in Android 14 .
The Pixel 8’s RAM is limited to 8GB. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro will offer 12GB of RAM. While 8GB is more than enough for daily apps and messaging, those who plan to use their phone for gaming and other more intensive purposes will likely want to make use of the 12GB of RAM offered in the Pixel 8 Pro.
What’s the same
Some things that don’t differ much between pixels. For example, both devices are equipped with Google’s latest Tensor G3 chip. Both devices run Android 14 out of the box and will receive a full seven years of guaranteed software support .

Which Pixel 8 should you choose?
It all depends on what you are looking for. Those who plan to use their new phone for more intensive tasks, or simply want the biggest, baddest camera, will find the Pixel 8 Pro a better choice. But if you just want to see what Google’s new Pixel phone has to offer, then the regular and cheaper Pixel 8 can offer more than enough for its price, especially with the power of Google’s Tensor G3 powering both devices.
