How to Download Images and Videos From Themes to Your IPhone
Apparently one of the most popular competitors to X (formerly known as Twitter), Meta’s Threads app is full of interesting photos and videos. Like all social media platforms, Threads accounts post everything from cute cat videos to scenic locations to screen recordings showcasing useful features on your phone. Unfortunately, Threads doesn’t have a built-in feature to download this content to your iPhone, but it’s still easy to do if you know how .
How to Download Photos and Videos from Threads on iPhone
If a popular app doesn’t have a built-in download feature, you can be sure that someone has created a useful shortcut to get the job done. This time, that person is @gluebyte , who has uploaded a shortcut for downloading threads to RoutineHub. Here’s how it works:
- Make sure you have the Apple Shortcuts app installed on your iPhone.
- Download and install two other free apps – Scriptable and a-Shell mini .
- Open the Threads app and sign in if you haven’t already.
- Download the theme download shortcut .
- Open the Topics app and tap and hold the paper airplane icon under any message. You can scroll down and select “Download Themes” from the list of shortcuts. Alternatively, you can select Copy , open the Shortcuts app, and tap Download Themes .
- The shortcut will launch and ask for several permissions. You can safely resolve all this.
- You’ll see a couple of prompts asking whether you want the file date to be the date it was published or the current date, and whether you want to copy the title to the clipboard. Select the options you prefer.
That’s all! The downloaded media will appear in your Photo Library. The only limitation is that you can only upload media from public accounts.
Use an iPad to download from a private Threads account.
If you want to download something from a personal account, you’re out of luck with the iPhone. However, you can successfully follow the same process above on an iPad—the shortcut works for both public and private accounts using that device, which works through the less restrictive desktop version of Threads.
