Air Fried Croissants Make the Best Croutons
Toast is a wonderful indulgence: a crunchy piece of bread in a pile of greens or a dip in tomato soup. But sometimes croutons can be painful to eat. Luckily, that’s not the case with air-fried croissants, the best kind of crouton.
The croissant croutons are crunchy rather than crunchy, without any of the hard, sharp corners and edges typically found in croutons made with crusty bread. They also come with butter, so there’s no need to add any extra butter to them—you can just use a seasoning blend like garlic salt, any all-purpose seasoning, or any of the articulated shakers they sell at Trader Joe’s.
And while you can buy croissant toast at Trader Joe’s, they’re unfortunately not very good. (I found them tasteless and noticeably unbuttery. I didn’t finish the bag.) Plus, making your own is super easy. All you need is a croissant and a mixture of seasonings. Croissants, store-bought or homemade, stale or fresh – they all work. Simply cut a croissant into cubes, season the cubes and air fry them for about five minutes and you’ll have a fresh batch of buttery, crispy, almost fluffy croutons.
Air fried croissant toast
Ingredients:
- 1 croissant
- Seasoning blend of your choice
Using a serrated bread knife, cut the croissant into 1-inch cubes and transfer to a bowl. Season generously with your favorite spices or seasoning blend, tossing the cubes into the bowl to coat. Garlic salt is a good start.
Set the air fryer temperature to 300℉. Place the cubed croissant pieces in the basket and air fry for five minutes, stirring once or twice to ensure even browning. Remove them from the fryer once they are one shade of golden brown and let cool completely before eating them in a salad, soup, or straight from the palm of your hand.
