The Best New Keyboard Features in IOS 17
Your iPhone’s keyboard just got a whole lot better thanks to several updates that just came with iOS 17 . Apple says it has improved many aspects of the keyboard that are typically awkward to use, such as autocorrect (thank goodness), including the ability to swear seamlessly. (Talk about ducking time, Apple.) Here’s everything that’s changed for your iPhone’s keyboard with iOS 17.
It’s easier than ever to swear
While there are ways to stop AutoCorrect from censoring you , none are better than iOS 17’s built-in explicit language handler. Apple says your iPhone can now add swear words to your personal dictionary and remember words you use across apps. If you tend to use a variety of colorful languages and change them across different apps, then your iPhone’s keyboard will remember and suggest those words accordingly. This way, your keyboard won’t suggest the same types of messages to your best friend as it does to your boss.
Improved autocorrect suggestions
Apple claims to have improved one of the biggest problems facing every iPhone user: AutoCorrect. AutoCorrect in iOS 17 should make better word suggestions and be able to correct entire sentences. It also highlights the words it changes, making it easy to see where you might have made a mistake (or where you’d rather go back to what you originally wrote).
Improved accuracy of autocorrect.
According to Apple, AutoCorrect in iOS 17 is much more accurate than before. Use the keyboard as you normally would, and autocorrect suggestions should be improved across the board. In past years, the accuracy of autocorrection sometimes decreased over time. We can only hope that the accuracy remains high after several months of using iOS 17.
Built-in predictive text
Building on these smart features, iOS 17 now offers built-in predictive text, just like Google Docs. If iOS thinks it can complete the sentence for you, you’ll see those words appear weakly. Tap them to add them, or ignore them to enter whatever you want.
More keyboards with transliteration
Particularly for Indian languages like Hindi, iOS has built-in transliteration keyboards that also allow you to use Roman characters. iOS then suggests relevant words in your native language so you can quickly find the words you need. This allows native speakers of these languages to type much faster in their native language. iOS 17 adds transliteration keyboards for Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.
Improved keyboards for many languages
QuickPath, the keyboard feature that allows you to type with a swipe, now works in more languages: Arabic, Hebrew, Korean, Polish and Romanian. Added smart text support for Hebrew, Polish and Romanian. Finally, multilingual keyboards for Polish, Romanian and Turkish are now available.
Handwriting keyboard for Japanese language
The Japanese keyboard now allows you to draw characters and convert them to text. This is very useful because the Japanese alphabet has thousands of characters and sometimes it’s faster to draw the one you need.
