The Most Cool IPhone 15 Features Most People Missed
While Apple’s “Wonderlust” event was jam-packed with information about the Apple Watch , iPhone 15 and 15 Pro , and USB-C AirPods Pro , the company still didn’t include a lot of useful information in the keynote. If you’re wondering what else is worth knowing, here’s a short list to help you catch up.
Faster data transfer
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max support USB 3.0 , which can reach data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This is a welcome improvement over the USB 2.0 speeds we saw in the iPhone 15 and the iPhone before it. Copying photos using a cable will be much faster, just like backing up your iPhone. Of course, there’s a caveat: you’ll need a 10Gbps USB 3.0 cable like this one to get the most out of this feature, so be sure to pay attention to that spec when purchasing.
HEIF Max photos coming to iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
The new 48MP HEIF Max photo mode is not limited to just the iPhone 15 Pro series. After a software update, they will also be available on iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Apple says this new codec shoots at 4 times the resolution of ProRAW.
Your iPhone now has new ringtones
iOS 17 has updated the ringtones on your iPhone. If old ringtones seem outdated after ten years, upgrade your iPhone and try new ringtones. Luckily, this feature doesn’t require you to purchase a new iPhone. If your iPhone supports iOS 17, you’re good to go. After starting the new OS, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics to check out these ringtones.
iPhone 15 can charge AirPods Pro and Apple Watch via USB-C
Yes, the iPhone 15 series’ move to USB-C means you can use your phone to charge AirPods Pro and Apple Watch via USB-C. Your AirPods Pro (2nd generation) can be charged using a USB-C to USB-C cable , and your Apple Watch can be charged using a USB-C charger . Apple briefly mentioned this feature in its keynote, but it’s important enough to highlight for those who may have missed the announcement.
AirPods Pro have improved dust protection
AirPods Pro USB-C and charging case are IP54 rated for dust and water resistance. New here is improved dust resistance, as evidenced by the first digit in the IP54 rating. Light contact with dust should be safe for your AirPods Pro USB-C.
Network radio on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
Although Apple hasn’t advertised it much, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max support Thread network radio. This could mean better support for smart home hardware in the future, but for now the feature isn’t a big deal.
