Differences Between IPhone 15 and IPhone 15 Plus

Apple unveiled the new iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models at the September 2023 Wonderlust event . For the second year in a row, the company is ditching the “Mini” iPhone in favor of a new, larger iPhone—meaning your base-level options fall between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. If you’re wondering which iPhone to choose, let’s take a look at the differences between them.

The biggest difference between the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus: display size

Display size is the biggest difference between the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. iPhone 15 features a 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina display. If you’re looking for a phone with a larger screen, the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. Both phones have a peak display brightness of 2,000 nits outdoors (typically 1,000 nits, 1,600 HDR).

The iPhone 15 is obviously the smaller of the two, measuring 5.81 inches (147.6 mm) tall, 2.82 inches (71.6 mm) wide, 0.31 inches (7.80 mm) deep, and weighs 6. 02 oz (171 grams). . The Plus weighs 7.09 ounces (201 grams), measures 6.33 inches (160.9 mm) high, 3.06 inches (77.8 mm) wide, and 0.31 inches (7.80 mm) deep.

Both smartphones also feature Dynamic Island technology, first introduced last year on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Dynamic Island replaces the “notch” found on every standard iPhone since the iPhone X, allowing you to view app data and interactions in a pill-shaped cutout at the top of your iPhone’s display.

Resistant to dust and water

Both iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are IP68 rated for water and dust resistance, which means you can submerge them in water up to 19 feet (6 meters) deep for up to 30 minutes.

Both iPhone 15 and 15 Plus promise “all day” battery life

A larger battery could be another reason to consider the iPhone 15 Plus over its smaller counterpart: Apple hasn’t revealed the battery capacity of its iPhones, but the company says the iPhone 15 offers “all-day battery life” and the iPhone 15 Plus lasts longer.

iPhone 15 borrows the A16 Bionic processor from the iPhone 14 Pro.

Both new smartphones come with Apple’s A16 Bionic chipset, first introduced on last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. It promises better performance and increased power efficiency compared to the A15 chip in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. These chipsets have a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. Both smartphones start with 128GB of internal storage, but you can also pay for more storage.

The iPhone has finally abandoned Lightning in favor of USB-C

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus come with a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port on previous versions of iPhone. This is a radical shift for Apple, which has been using proprietary ports on its smartphones since the release of the first iPhone back in 2007. (USB-C support has also been added to AirPods, and Apple also sells a USB-C version of its wired EarPods.)

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus received the same camera upgrades.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have the same dual camera setup: a 48-megapixel main camera with f/1.6 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture. Both have the same TrueDepth front camera.

Either model offers computational photography that lets you take better photos than ever before, at least according to Apple. On your iPhone 15, you’ll be able to take 12MP telephoto photos using the main rear camera with the same f/1.6 aperture. You have the option of choosing between 48-megapixel full-resolution stills, 24-megapixel stills to balance quality and storage capacity, and 12-megapixel telephoto lenses with 2x zoom.

There are several important updates to the Camera app this year. We now have manual focus and depth control in Portrait mode, and by the way, you no longer need to be in Portrait mode to take portraits: your iPhone 15 will capture the information you need for portrait shots even in Standard mode, so you can apply the effect in the post if you want.

Emergency SOS

Building on last year’s Satellite Emergency Assistance feature, iPhone 15 supports Satellite Roadside Assistance. Essentially, you can send AAA text messages even when you’re off Wi-Fi and cellular coverage through the helpful Emergency SOS interface.

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are available in pink, yellow, green, blue and black.
