You Can Finally Check the Version History of a Note in Google Keep
Note-taking apps are everywhere: you can dive into sophisticated options with an endless list of productivity features, or you can make things easier with the note-taking apps offered for free on your device. Of course, if you go down this path, you may miss out on some features, sometimes those that should be absolutely standard.
Can I take Google Keep as proof: Google’s free note-taking solution does a lot of things right, especially for those who want a simple note-taking program that syncs with the Google ecosystem. But since their inception ten years ago , both the app and the site have missed one important feature you’d expect from a recording service: version history.
Having a version history is the only reliable way to log in and edit existing notes. When you change something in a version history note, nothing is permanent: you can always go back and see what happened before, so if you regret the change or are missing some key context, you can always fix it This.
Google is not alone here, of course. Apple Notes is another note-taking app without version history. However, Apple will be chasing Google for this as Google Keep now officially supports version history.
How to Check Version History for a Google Keep Note
This feature currently only works with the Google Keep web app (keep.google.com). Hopefully we will see it on Android and iOS in the near future.
For now, you can go to the Google Keep web app and click on the three dots next to any note. Here you will find a new option “Version History”. By selecting it, you will see all previous versions of this note. Although you cannot restore a previous version of a note, you can download a copy of the note as it was at the time. If you want, you can paste this text back into the original note – sort of a workaround to “restore” it to this version.
