Google AI Can Now Summarize an Article Directly in Search Results
ChatGPT may be the first name that comes to mind when you think of artificial intelligence, but Google also deserves to be there. The company is constantly improving its AI products, as evidenced by recent updates to both the Bard AI chatbot and AI music generator .
The company is now making AI more prominent in its search functionality with a bot that will summarize both your searches and web pages using generative AI.
Google’s Generative Artificial Intelligence in Search (SGE)
Google started three months ago with generative artificial intelligence in search (SGE) . With this feature, Google will offer an AI-powered result for your search query – a smart summary with bullets, images, videos, and quotes for all of its sources. A recent update added these additional media, even if they made the whole process faster, and added publication dates to the sources cited. Also , Google is implementing the ability to define words in the AI summary and adding more context when displaying the generated code.
It’s a fun feature to explore: when you search for something like “How to change a tire”, you’ll see your usual results, as well as the question “Get AI review for this search?” If you click “Create”, Google’s artificial intelligence will work. If there is not enough context in the resume or if you have additional questions, you can “contact” at the bottom of this field.
Getting to know SGE while browsing
But that’s not all: Google also announced “SGE while browsing” today, Google’s artificial intelligence will summarize bulk content such as a long article so you can quickly get the main points on any topic. Many summaries will display highlights as a bulleted list – for example, in AI-powered searches, Google refers to the pieces of content it pulls information from, so if you want more information about a piece of a summary or just want to know the facts, check out the work. Google ( what you should definitely do ), you can click on this part of the summary to go to the corresponding part of the article.
The Google AI summary will also break down the various sections of the article into an “In-Page Research” section: here you’ll see questions that Google thinks you might want to know the answer to. If you click on a question, you will jump to the part of the article that answers it, and highlight that section as well. The Learn More section is similar, only it contains the answers to these questions, so you don’t have to jump to the other parts of the article first.
How to Get Started with Generative AI Google Search and Article Summaries
To use these features, you must register with Google Search Labs. Luckily, this is easy to do: just open a new Chrome tab (not in incognito mode), then click the lab icon, which is shaped like a glass. You can also find these options in the Google app on iOS and Android by tapping the glass icon. If you don’t see the icon, your Google account doesn’t support Search Labs. (You may need to be on a waiting list to join.)
The experiments you are interested in are SGE, generative AI in search, and SGE while browsing. Turn them on. You will now see new AI-powered generative pop-ups whenever you do a Google search, as well as when you click on long articles.
