Marvel’s latest Secret Invasion series is the latest example of this form, with a storyline filled with espionage, double crossings, and double agents, with Nick Fury at the center of the action.

Secret Invasion premiered on June 23, 2023, and is the first official entry in the fifth phase of the Marvel superhero saga. Here’s everything you need to know before diving into this MCU covert ops story.

What is Secret Invasion about?

Secret Invasion focuses on Nick Fury’s return to Earth after spending time on the SABER space station. We see Fury reunite with Maria Hill (a character on the ABC television series Agents of SHIELD ) and Talos, a former general from a shape-shifting alien race called the Skrulls (which you heard about if you were paying attention during The Captain ). Marvel ). The Skrulls are essentially space refugees looking for a new home after years of war with another alien race, the Kree. A few years ago, Captain Marvel and Nick Fury promised to help the Skrulls find a new home. Now, Maria and Talos have brought back Nick Fury to deal with a group of renegade Skrulls bent on taking over Earth and making it their new home (this will be part of a “secret invasion”).

What comics is Secret Invasion based on?

Secret Invasion is based on the eight-issue Marvel Comics 2008 event of the same name, during which it was revealed that some heroes and villains were replaced by Skrulls. This revelation turns the Marvel Universe upside down as no one knows who to trust – it seems the Skrulls have found a way to wage war on Earth under everyone’s nose. The “Secret Invasion” comic book event also featured the return of several heroes previously thought to be dead. Will there be a Secret Invasion Season 2?
