Your Kitchen Needs a Cup Full of Baby Spoons

Historically, I rarely go around children or people who have children, so I rarely think about or buy children’s things. But now my sister has a baby, and I really like that baby, and I find myself stopping in the baby and toddler section of various big stores, wondering, “Will the baby like this?” That’s how I came to buy a pack of multi-colored disposable children’s spoons, but not for a child, but for myself.

Of course, spoons will not interfere with the child if she arrives, but I did not buy them for food. I bought them for tasting. The spoons are small and plastic, for small soft mouths (my mouth is quite large and worn out) and this makes them excellent tasting spoons.

What is a tasting spoon?

A tasting spoon is exactly what it sounds like – a spoon for tasting food while it’s cooking. Using a tasting spoon keeps the kitchen spoon or spatula free of saliva, which is a polite thing to do if you’re not cooking for yourself but for someone else. Ina Garten is a supporter of dishes and keeps a jar of antique tasting spoons near her stove.

Take baby spoons, baby:

The baby spoons may not be as pretty as Ina’s collection, but they are economical and functional. Their small bowl size means you get just the right amount of food for true flavor, and it won’t fill up until dinner time, and their plastic body doesn’t get hot like metal in a hot pot of soup or sauce, so you’re far less likely to burn yourself. your pretty mouth.

The spoons I bought at the grocery store were cheap and fun , and while they’re labeled “disposable” that means you shouldn’t regret throwing them away if they get dirty or smelly, they can be washed and used reapply as needed. Store them in a coffee cup or jar next to the stove, grab and taste as you cook, without burning your tongue or mixing germs in your mouth with the bolognese.
