You Must Stock up on Forever Stamps by July 9
Inflation continues to affect a number of day-to-day expenses, including the cost of sending mail. According to the US Postal Service (USPS), starting next week, the price of the Forever stamp, as well as other types of postal items, will increase. Fortunately, there is still time to stock up on stamps at current prices. Here’s what you need to know.
How much does a Forever stamp cost?
The Forever stamp is currently worth 63 cents. But this won’t be for long: on July 9, 2023, the price will rise by about 5.4%, to 66 cents, the USPS reported earlier this year.
While 3 cents may not sound like much, in this economy every little thing counts, especially if you tend to use a lot of stamps. For this reason, you can restock on or before Saturday, July 8, as they will remain in effect even after the price increase.
That’s the beauty of Forever stamps: as the name suggests, they can be used to send a one-ounce letter “regardless of when the stamps were purchased or used, and regardless of how prices may change in the future,” according to the USPS . .
This is the second time this year that Forever stamps have risen in price: on January 22, 2023, they rose from 60 cents to 63 cents each. According to the USPS , both increases were meant to “offset rising inflation”.
Additional postage increases
Along with the Forever stamp, other types of postal items will increase in price from July 9th. The cost of sending a domestic postcard will increase from 48 cents to 51 cents, and the cost of sending an international letter (1 ounce) or postcard will increase from $1.45 to $1.50.
Even with this increase, the USPS notes that its prices “remain among the most affordable in the world”.
