What’s New on Netflix in July 2023

Before The Ring of Power, The Wheel of Time , or The House of the Dragon , there was The Witcher , the first fantasy epic since Game of Thrones to be widely successful. If the Netflix adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and video game series failed to capture the zeitgeist, it has remained popular enough to spawn two spin-off seasons to date – if not so popular as to retain its lead actor.

Unfortunately for fans of bad wigs, Henry Cavill will indeed lay down his bloodied sword at the end of the show’s third season, the second half of which hits Netflix on July 27. The producers announced their intention to recast the key role. monster hunter Geralt of Rivia with Liam Hemsworth . Depending on what rumors you listen to , Cavill may be leaving because the series doesn’t match the franchise’s origins enough . Whatever the reason, the trailer promises plenty of monstrous action before it leaves.

Also arriving in a month that seems pretty easy for a streaming series: They’ve Cloned Tyrone (July 21), a ridiculously funny sci-fi thriller starring John Boyega as a dude who discovers a government cloning plot. Co-written with Jewel Taylor (screenwriter of Creed II ) and intended as a tribute to the black exploitation films of the 1970s, it looks very much in the same vein as Boyega’s breakthrough Attack the Block .
