Use a Duvet Cover As a Summer Cover
Sleeping in the summer heat can be pretty bad . Of course, having an air conditioner helps a lot, but if you are hot when you go to bed, you may find it difficult to fall asleep, especially if you are a hot sleeper .
And no matter how cozy your thick fluffy blanket is, you probably won’t need that much weight in the warmer months. But why spend money on buying something lighter when a duvet cover can be used as a summer bedspread? Here’s what you need to know.
Use the duvet cover as a summer cover.
Thanks to our modern, climate-controlled homes, we tend to think that our bedding can be used all year round — with the possible exception of flannel sheets — but that’s relatively recent thinking.
Before the advent of central heating or any other type of air conditioning, the type of bedding you used depended on the season. As temperatures began to drop each fall, heavier blankets would come out of the store and be replaced with lighter blankets in the spring.
Benefits
Luckily, if you’ve invested in a duvet and bedspread (or two), you already have everything you need to make a similar seasonal transition.
One of the biggest benefits of using a duvet (and bedspread) instead of a duvet that is traditionally used without a duvet is the ability to easily remove and wash the duvet yourself. Of course, the same is true when you use a duvet cover (without an insert) as a summer bedspread, allowing you to toss it into the washing machine along with the rest of your bedding.
It’s also easy to style. When you initially chose your duvet cover, you may have taken the rest of the room’s décor into consideration. So, if a solid look is important to you, you can achieve this without having to find a new, lighter bedspread or blanket to fit your space.
