You Must Use a Foaming Agent to Mix the Protein Powder
Protein shakes can end up clumpy or lumpy if you don’t mix them properly. This is why a shaker mixes whey with milk better than just stirring with a spoon. The blender works even better if you’re ready to clean the blender when you’re done. But there is a better option: a manual frother .
To be clear, this is for drinks where you mix a powder with a liquid. (If you want to add ice and fruit to your protein shake — a smoothie rather than a simple drink — you still need a blender. But you knew that.) As far as I can tell, it works with any powder and any liquid. . I tested the foamer and found it gives great results with:
- Collagen powder and coffee (or tea)
- Dry whey and water
- Pure whey and water
- Hot cocoa and milk
- Various additive powders, well, whatever
Shame, I didn’t think of that myself. Supplement companies such as MUD\WTR and Beam include a hand foamer in their starter packs. In fact, the only reason I have a blowing agent is because MUD\WTR once sent me one with a few samples in the hope that I would review the product. (My review: I don’t like it .)
How to use a foaming agent to mix protein powder
First, buy yourself some styrofoam. These are simple portable gadgets that cost about the same as a shaker bottle, about $7-$10 on the low end, and go indefinitely as they are a fashionable coffee accessory. For our purposes, cheap ones are suitable. Get one that is powered by AA batteries or charged by USB .
Then prepare the liquid. The first time you do this, be sure to use a large container. One cup of e-liquid in a 16-ounce container will keep you out of an unexpected mess.
Then add the powder to the liquid, insert the foamer and turn it on. (Unless you’re using pure whey, which tends to stick the foamer together; it’s best to insert the foamer first and then add the powder.) If you hold the foamer in the center of the cup, you’ll get a whirlpool effect that sends the liquid up toward (or over) the edge of the container. hence my warning. Once you’ve done this a few times, you’ll figure out how to do it with less mess. If you tilt the frother and press it against the side of the cup, this will hold back the waves. You can also pulse the blower multiple times instead of keeping it on all the time, which further reduces the waves.
It only takes 5-10 seconds to prepare yourself a smooth, creamy protein shake – or hot cocoa, or whatever your heart that appreciates delicate drinks desires. Take a few more seconds to rinse the working end of the frother; A short sweep of the soapy sponge under running water is usually sufficient. And then enjoy your perfectly blended drink with nothing but a cup to put away later.
