What to Expect From the Sony PlayStation Showcase, the First Since 2021?
Nintendo may be getting the attention of the gaming world right now with Tears of the Kingdom , but guys, there are plenty of other games to play and there will be many more from Sony soon. We’ll hear about them during next week’s big PlayStation Showcase, so you can watch it too.
What to expect from the PlayStation Showcase?
Officially? A little. Sony announced its latest PlayStation Showcase on its blog on Wednesday . All we know is that the event, scheduled for Wednesday, May 24th, will run for over an hour and will focus on upcoming PlayStation 5 and PS VR2 games. Sony specifically notes that it announces its own games from PlayStation Studios, as well as games from third-party developers, but does not go into details.
While Sony may be silent about what’s coming down the line, the rumor mill is spinning. As noted by IGN , Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for a fall 2023 release, despite a lack of promotion from Sony itself. This isn’t unusual: Nintendo hasn’t said anything about Tears of the Kingdom for years, aside from a handful of carefully curated trailers. It wasn’t until just before the game’s release that we learned anything concrete. IGN also notes that legendary developer Naughty Dog is also working on new games, including The Last of Us multiplayer , so we may find out.
This is the first PlayStation presentation since 2021 . Titles such as God of War Ragnarok , the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, and the announcement of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have been celebrated at the event. It’s certainly an encouraging precedent as we approach the 2023 Showcase.
