This Ingredient Will Spruce up Your Krispies Rice Treats.

Rice Krispies Treats is an easy-to-make, adaptable dessert: you can go the traditional route or replace it with other cereals , use potato chips , or sauté them with butter . While Rice Krispies Treats are great in many forms, they tend to get a little tough and dry, especially after a day or so. But counteracting the dryness of Rice Krispies is pretty easy, and it can be done with just one ingredient: sweetened condensed milk.

Sweetened condensed milk has many uses , from making Vietnamese iced coffee, Brazilian limeade , or dulce de leche to two-ingredient frosting . In addition to being delicious, sweetened condensed milk can also add a softer texture to Krispies rice treats that will last for days.

To make these Krispies rice treats adapted from a recipe from Modern Meal Makeover , add half a cup of sweetened condensed milk to six tablespoons of melted butter, stirring on low heat until the mixture is smooth and slightly bubbling. After that, add a full 16 oz bag of marshmallows and a little vanilla extract until the mixture turns into a smooth sauce.

Once the marshmallow mixture is completely melted, remove it from the heat and add 6 to 8 cups of cereal (or potato chips) of your choice, pressing the mixture into a greased 9″ x 13″ pan. Six cups of cereal will make an extremely sticky mixture in which the cereal is heavily soaked in marshmallow sauce, and eight cups will make a more conservative, though healthy, ratio of marshmallow to cereal. (I decided to add eight cups to soften the sweetness and add some crunch.)

After that, place the mixture in the refrigerator to cool down so that the treat is soft straight out of the refrigerator. As Modern Meal Makeover suggests , these treats can be frozen and stored in an airtight container for up to four months in the freezer.
