Peloton Recalls Millions of Bikes

Peloton, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a voluntary recall of its flagship product, the original Peloton bike , following reports of dozens of riders falling and injured. Some 2.2 million bikes are tagged and the company is urging customers not to ride them due to the possibility of the seat breaking during use.

According to the recall, the seatpost on a bicycle can break unexpectedly during use, which can lead to falls and injury. As of April 30, 35 people have reported falling in Peloton and CPSC. Thirteen of those people suffered injuries, including fractured wrists, lacerations and bruises.

Which Peloton is being recalled?

The recall affects all original Peloton bikes sold between January 2018 and May 2023 in the United States. You can tell if your Peloton is one of the recalls if it has a “PL-01” model number label on the inner front fork near the flywheel. It will also feature a red “P” logo followed by a white Peloton. If you have an original Peloton Bike originally sold outside the US, North America Bike+ or International Bike+, you will not be affected by this recall.

What to do if your Peloton is recalled

CSPC encourages all owners of Original Peloton Bike models to stop using the bike until they have their seatpost replaced.

Peloton offers owners a free seatpost replacement even if you bought a used Peloton (provided you registered Peloton with your email) – you can start ordering a new seatpost here . The website was giving some users an error on Thursday morning, but it seems to be working now.
